Medicines called zaleplon, zolpidem and zopiclone are commonly called the Z drugs. However, they act in a similar way to benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are some of the most commonly used medications in psychiatry. They comprise a large family of medications with some of the.

There are a lot of medications in this family, so it's important to know some of the differences between these medications. So these differences can be important in choosing the right benzodiazepines to treat your particular symptoms. Most of these differences stem from differences in the rate of onset of action of the drugs or in the duration of action of the drugs. So for example, alprazolam -- or Xanax -- when taken on a regular basis has a very rapid onset of action and a very brief duration of action on the order of hours, as opposed to clonazepam -- or Klonopin -- which has a fairly rapid onset of action and lasts for much longer, usually on the order of days.

Alprazolam Description. Alprazolam Tablets contain Alprazolam which is a triazolo analog of the 1,4 benzodiazepine class of central nervous system-active.

Gender has no effect on the pharmacokinetics of Alprazolam.

Serum albumin accounts for the majority of the binding. In vitro, Alprazolam is bound (80 percent) to human serum protein.

In addition, the 0.5 mg tablet contains FD&C Yellow No. Inactive ingredients: Cellulose, corn starch, docusate sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide and sodium benzoate. 6 and the 1 mg tablet contains FD&C Blue No. 2.

Panic disorder (DSM-IV) is characterized by recurrent unexpected panic attacks, ie, a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort in which four (or more) of the following symptoms develop abruptly and reach a peak within 10 minutes: (1) palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate; (2) sweating; (3) trembling or shaking; (4) sensations of shortness of breath or smothering; (5) feeling of choking; (6) chest pain or discomfort; (7) nausea or abdominal distress; (8) feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint; (9) derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (being detached from oneself); (10) fear of losing control; (11) fear of dying; (12) paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations); (13) chills or hot flushes.

These symptoms must not be secondary to another psychiatric disorder or caused by some organic factor.
