At the end of the 10-week double-blind treatment, there was a trend (p <.06) favoring the paroxetine/clonazepam group, who had a 79% response rate (Clinical Global Impressions-Global Improvement scale score of 1 or 2) compared with a 43% response rate for the paroxetine/placebo group. Dropout rates due to adverse events were rare (1 patient in each group), indicating that the paroxetine/clonazepam combination was well tolerated. Nineteen (68%) of 28 patients completed treatment.

Fluoxetine-clonazepam cotherapy for anxious depression: an exploratory, post-hoc Adult; Anti-Anxiety Agents/administration & dosage; Antidepressive.

National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine 8600 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD, 20894 USA.

Anxious depression status was not found to predict symptom improvement, or serve as a moderator of clinical improvement to cotherapy versus monotherapy. We sought to examine the relative benefits of antidepressant-anxiolytic cotherapy versus antidepressant monotherapy for patients with anxious depression versus without anxious depression. We conducted a post-hoc analysis of an existing dataset (N=80), from a 3-week, randomized, double-blind trial which demonstrated cotherapy with fluoxetine and clonazepam to result in superior efficacy than fluoxetine monotherapy in MDD. Anxious depression, defined as major depressive disorder (MDD) accompanied by high levels of anxiety, seems to be both common and difficult to treat, with antidepressant monotherapy often yielding modest results. The respective number needed to treat statistic for these two differences in response rates were, approximay, one in three for patients with anxious depression versus one in 10 for patients without anxious depression. The present analysis involved examining whether anxious depression status served as a predictor and moderator of symptom improvement. The efficacy of fluoxetine-clonazepam cotherapy compared with fluoxetine monotherapy was numerically but not statistically enhanced for patients with anxious depression than those without anxious depression. However, the advantage in remission rates in favor of cotherapy versus monotherapy was, numerically, much larger for patients with anxious depression (32.2%) than it was for patients without anxious MDD (9.7%).

Antianxiety Medications: In my continual research, I ran across this First, let me l you that I take 8 mg of Clonazepam (Klonopin) on a daily.

I could skip a dose if I wanted to). I was prescribed and took Xanax three times a day (forget the dosage) for about 6 months for severe Panic Attacks and PTSD symptoms. What I liked about Xanax was that it was fast acting, and I had control over how long or how much I would be sedated (i.e. (I know, it stays in your system much longer.). And it only lasted 4 hours.

When I step down on these meds, I go ultra slow to avoid withdrawal issues.
