Apo-Lorazepam (CA), Ativan, Novo-Lorazem (CA), Nu-Loraz (CA). Pharmacologic class: Benzodiazepine. Therapeutic class: Anxiolytic. Controlled substance.

Smoking: increased metabolism and decreased efficacy of lorazepam.

EENT: blurred vision, diplopia, nystagmus.

Solution (concentrated): 2 mg/ml.

• Elderly or debilitated patients.

GI: nausea, abdominal discomfort.

Use cautiously in: • hepatic or renal impairment • history of suicide attempt, drug abuse, depressive disorder, or psychosis • elderly patients • pregnant or breastfeeding patients.

Unknown. Thought to depress CNS at limbic system and disrupt neurotransmission in reticular activating system.

• Hypersensitivity to drug, other benzodiazepines, polyethylene or propylene glycol, or benzyl alcohol • Acute angle-closure glaucoma • Coma or CNS depression • Hepatic or renal failure.

Controlled substance schedule IV.

PDR Drug Summaries are concise point-of-care prescribing, dosing and administering information to help phsyicans more efficiently and accuray prescribe in.

Warn not to operate dangerous machinery or motor vehicles and that tolerance for alcohol and other CNS depressants will be diminished. Advise to consult physician if pregnancy occurs. Inform that psychological/physical dependence may occur; instruct to consult physician before increasing dose or abruptly d/c drug.

Usual Range: 2-6mg/day in divided doses; take largest dose before hs. Insomnia: 2-4mg as a single dose qhs. Anxiety: Initial: 2-3mg/day given bid or tid.
