You can use Diazepam in acute anxiety states and agitation, acute alcohol withdrawal, muscle relaxant, seizure activity, and sedation for medical procedures such as intubation, ventilated patients, and cardioversion. May be helpful in acute symptomatic cocaine overdose.

Onset: 1-5 min Peak Effects: 15 min Duration: 20-50 min.

Diazepam is incompatible with most drugs, fluids.

CLASS: Phenothiazine, antihistamine DOSAGE: 12.5-25mg IV, Deep IM INDICATIONS: nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, preoperative & postoperative, obstetric sedation to potentiate effects of analgesics, allergic reaction EFFECTS: mild Anticholinergic activity, antiemetic, potentiates actions of analgesics SIDE EFFECTS: may impair mental and physical abilities, drowsiness.

CLASS: Nonbarbituate hypnotic, anesthetic DOSAGE: 0.1-0.3mg/kg IV over 15-30 seconds INDICATIONS: Premedication for RSI or cardioversion EFFECTS: Short acting drug that works at the level of the RAS to produce sedative/hypnotic effect SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, dysrhythmias, breathing difficulties, hypotension, hypertension, involuntary muscle movement, pain at injection site.

CLASS: Sympathetic agonist (B2 selective) DOSAGE: 0.63-1.25mg in 3.0mL NS via neb every 6-8 hrs; for acute asthma 1.25mg in 3.0mL NS every 20 min for a total of 3 doses INDICATIONS: Asthma, reversible bronchospasm associated with COPD EFFECTS: Bronchodilation SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, anxiety, palpations.

Class: Anticholinergic Indications: bronchial asthma & reversible bronchospasm associated w/ chronic bronchitis & emphysema Effects: causes bronchodilation & dries respiratory tract secretions Side Effects: palpations, anxiety, dizziness, headache, nervousness, rash, nausea, vomiting.
