These rashes may occur anytime during use, but most serious rashes have occurred within 2 to 8 weeks of starting lamotrigine. These rashes are more common in children under 16 than in adults. Rarely, serious (sometimes fatal) skin rashes have occurred while taking this medication. Rashes may be more likely if you start at too high a dose, if you increase your dose too quickly, or if you take this medication with certain other anti- seizure medications ( valproic acid, divalproex ).

Does Lamictal Cause Weight Gain or Loss? - Bipolar Disorder

The effect of Lamictal (lamotrigine) on weight has been studied quite a bit. The results should be reassuring to patients with bipolar disorder.

In the original clinical trials, 5% of adults with epilepsy lost weight while taking Lamictal, while between 1 and 5% of patients with Bipolar I disorder gained weight. Lamictal is an anticonvulsant medication that can be used to treat seizure disorders and as a mood stabilizer in bipolar disorders. The amount of weight gained or lost is not listed.
