Lexapro and Seizures Epilepsy Foundation

Since I never had seizures before and the only medication I was on was Lexapro I am wondering if there is a connection. Anyone else hear anything about this.

Any and all help/advice is most appreciated! :) Thanks, Cat.

We (my family and I) are thinking my seizure is a side effect of Lexapro, but aren't compley sure. I am going to get a full body physical in a few days, along with an EEG, to be tested for epilepsy and try to find out what caused my seizure.

Having seizures is a scream for help, and is one of the body's ways of saying something's wrong fix me.It is also a side effect that is rare, and if you are having difficulty with that, I would get ahold of your neuro/epi and let them know now, before this gets to far.It may be medication-induced and if the dose of your Lexapro was reduced or stopped altogether, you may not have anymore seizures.

Depression and Persons with Epilepsy; Treatment of Depression (Prozac); paroxetine (Paxil); sertraline (Zoloft); citalopram (Celexa); escitalopram (Lexapro).

Other antiepileptic drugs, especially benzodiazepines, levetiracetam, topiramate and vigabatrin, can also occasionally contribute to depression. Taking one or more other antiepileptic drugs in combination with a barbiturate can also increase the risk. This kind of depression is often dose-related; that is, the higher the dose, the greater the risk of depression. It is rare that only a barbiturate can control epilepsy, however, so if a person who is taking a barbiturate is feeling depressed, he or she should ask the doctor about a medication change.

BTW, I <3 my Keppra. Another reason for putting you on the AD for a while before starting you on Keppra may be because sometimes Keppra has a side-effect of really making people depressed.
