LOMOTIL (Diphenoxylate, Atropine) dosage, indication, interactions

LOMOTIL (Diphenoxylate, Atropine) drug information & product resources LOMOTIL (diphenoxylate HCl 2.5mg, atropine sulfate 0.025mg) tablets by Pfizer.

Maintenance: 25% initial dose; max 48hrs. 2–12 yrs: initially 0.3–0.4mg/kg in 4 divided doses until diarrhea is controlled. <2 yrs: not recommended.

Tabs—100, 500, 1000, 2500; Soln—60mL.

Generic Name and Formulations: Diphenoxylate HCl 2.5mg, atropine sulfate 0.025mg; tabs. Company: Pfizer Inc.

Acute ulcerative colitis; discontinue if toxic megacolon occurs. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Drug abusers. Abnormal liver function tests. Nursing mothers. Dehydration. Hepatic or renal disease.

May delay elimination of other drugs metabolized by CYP450. Potentiates sedation with alcohol, CNS depressants. Antimuscarinics may cause paralytic ileus. MAOIs may cause hypertensive crisis.

Maintenance: 2 tabs or 10mL daily. 2 tabs or 10mL 4 times daily until diarrhea is controlled.

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, paralytic ileus, toxic megacolon, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, euphoria, tachycardia, numbness of extremities, pruritus, urticaria, angioneurotic edema, anticholinergic effects; respiratory depression (overdosage), atropinism.

Diphenoxylate HCl/Atropine Sulfate Oral Solution Opioid + anticholinergic.

Adjunct to fluid and electrolyte replacement in diarrhea.

Obstructive jaundice. Pseudomembranous enterocolitis. Diarrhea caused by organisms that penetrate intestinal mucosa. Age <2 yrs.

Only 4 drugs may be compared at once.
