By evaluating 111 references that provided data on the safety of potassium bromide, the authors “identified a considerable body of pharmacological, primary, and supportive evidence regarding the in vivo safety of KBr” in dogs. The authors summarized their findings by body system affected and clinical signs observed.

Literature reviews may be especially helpful for an unapproved animal drug that has a long history of use and many literature references, like KBr. A review of published literature, such as the one done by FDA for potassium bromide, is an example of a new and innovative method to potentially show the safety of a particular use of a drug.

The authors reviewed more than 50 years of published literature on the use of potassium bromide in dogs.

When is a loading doseage recommended? When starting bromide at the maintenance dose, it takes.

The bromide ion is the active ingredient used for seizure control in potassium bromide and sodium bromide. There are no known differences in efficacy between the two salts. There are situations where one or the other is preferable.

I'd like to read more about KBr and Bromide Therapy, any recommendations?

K-BroVet Potassium Bromide - Seizure Medication for Dogs

K-BroVet contains Potassium Bromide, which is commonly used to help manage seizure K-BroVet may be given with food to reduce some gastric side effects.

Cautions: Not for use in cats.

Dosage: Pet Weight Dosage Dogs: All weights For a loading dose to achieve a serum level of 1 mg/ml is give 54.5 mg/lb once a day for 5 days, then reduce to 13.6 mg/lb once a day. You should always check with your veterinarian first. Cats: Horses: Storage: Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature (59-86° F). To achieve a serum level of 1.5 mg/ml, give 72.7 mg/lb once a day for 5 days, then reduce to 18 mg/lb once a day. Directions: • The dosages below are recommended only.

We started him on potassium bromide at the end of the month on top of with an occasional seizure if it meant I could have my old dog back.
