It is important to talk with your health care team about the specific side effects you experience and the best ways to manage and treat them. An important part of cancer care is relieving side effects, called symptom management, palliative care, or supportive care.

Either chemotherapy or radiation may cause infertility in both sexes. In women, chemotherapies with alkylating agents such as cyclophosphamide can damage the ovaries, resulting in irregular or absent menstrual periods.

You are finished with your active cancer treatment and moving to the next phase of your life. Patients often call this the "new" normal. On the other hand, you may find that physical, psychosocial or financial concerns continue because of earlier treatments. You may find your life returns to what you knew before you had cancer.

MD Anderson patients may be referred to a specialist in our dental clinic in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery if you have problems with your teeth, gums or mouth.

Nausea and vomiting - Not every person treated for cancer experiences nausea and vomiting, but for those who do, the level of discomfort varies from person to person, drug to drug, and can last from hours, to a day or sometimes longer. Relax Before Treatments Avoid Greasy High-Fat Foods Eat and Drink Slowly Rest After Eating Stay Hydrated Talk to Your Doctor.

Cracked and irritated skin can be more prone to infection, so it is important to take care of your skin during your treatment. Skin irritation - Chemotherapy drugs can cause rashes, itching and peeling skin and can cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun.
