If Ultram is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before.

Avoid operating a car or heavy machinery while taking Ultram, as it can impair your physical and mental awareness.

This may especially be true for patients who are taking certain other medications. The development of a potentially life-threatening adverse event known as serotonin syndrome (a potentially life-threatening drug reaction that causes the body to have too much serotonin, a chemical produced by the nerve cells) may develop when using Ultram. Contact your doctor immediay if you experience any signs of serotonin syndrome, such as mental-status changes, increase in heart rate, fever, incoordination, and/or stomach problems.

Ultram may cause dependence. You should not use it if you have previously been addicted to an opioid.

Side effects may include: constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, itchiness, nausea, sleeplessness, sweating, upset stomach, vomiting, weakness.

Adults ≥17 years: The usual starting dose is 25 milligrams (mg) daily. Your doctor will increase your dose over a course of several days as needed. Do not exceed 400 mg a day.
