Learn about the potential side effects of Zoloft (sertraline). Gastrointestinal side effects including nausea are the most common adverse effects caused by sertraline to have been very helpful in the treatment of persistent, sertraline-induced diarrhea. Nervous system side effects including insomnia, somnolence, tremor.

Excitement has been reported less frequently. Akathisia, myoclonic jerking, and sleep abnormalities have also been reported. At higher doses, drowsiness often ensues. Nervous system side effects including insomnia, somnolence, tremor, dizziness, headache, and fatigue have all been reported. The incidence of each of these effects ranges between 10% and 20% of treated patients. Increased alertness and enhanced cognition have been reported when sertraline is taken at low doses. Sertraline-induced facial paresthesia has also been reported.

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
